Disabilities, capabilities... possibilities

Disability Services Provider | Multicap

Centre of Creative Arts

The program is open to adults with disabilities who are enthusiastic about working towards becoming professional artists and who are willing and able to focus on their work for a full studio day.

Art is an effective training tool for people who may have barriers to cognitive-based training systems.  The ability to express oneself artistically can influence the basis in which they build skills, capabilities and integrate into the community as practicing artists.  Exposure to the Centre of Creative Arts introduces a new way of thinking about creative expression and a development of personal artistic abilities using various mediums and techniques.

The Centre of Creative Arts focuses on exploring the creative possibilities through visual and performing arts.  Students will discover that art can be a product of their own personal vision and a become part of their own visual language.  More importantly though, students experience a growth in confidence and self-esteem as a natural and inevitable result of participating in and achieving something they are passionate about.

The Centre of Creative Arts delivers programs designed to alternate every six months, aiming to introduce new techniques and projects. Each program focuses a particular art practice and all programs have been written with an objective and outcome in mind.  Students produce their own individual artworks, contribute to group projects, visit exhibiting galleries in the community and may work towards developing their skills to participate in an end of semester exhibition, performance showcase, competitions or displaying artwork in the community.  Some of the programs offered include - but are not limited to:
  • painting
  • sculpture
  • drawing
  • sewing
  • drama
  • print making
  • weaving
  • art appreciation
  • art history
  • clay
  • textiles
  • music…
