‘Viva La Frida’, an exhibition of a wide range of mediums from 28 Brisbane female artists, will be showing exclusively at Circle Gallery in West End on March 9, 2012.

The exhibition celebrates the life and artistic influence of renowned Mexican artist Frida Khalo. Monte Lupo artists have created 5 large Frida mosaic sculptures each depicting an element within Frida’s life.  It explores a key theme that one performs femininity or performs as a woman. It acknowledges the strong creativity of work by women artists in Brisbane and foregrounds their critical, unexpected and illuminating contributions, which shape the landscape of contemporary art.

Coinciding with International Women’s Day, the exhibition aims to raise fund to support the QLD Women’s Legal Service. The 10 day long exhibition is also featuring a wide range of Frida inspired creative workshops, which includes making a Mexican themed mosaic pendant, creating a paper mache babushka Frida, painting a mixed media Frida portrait and more.
