Sensory Therapy Program
Multicap offers a sensory therapy program to service users accessing day and accommodation services. This is overseen by the Music Therapist with individual programs facilitated by trained disability support workers.
The program provides opportunities for service users to access appropriate sensory stimulation. This is particularly important for people with sensory impairments and integration difficulties as it enables them to better understand their environment, themselves and communicate with others. Depending on individual needs, the program may also be used for relaxation and learning purposes, to provide choice and control over environment, communication and language development, hand/eye co-ordination and cognitive stimulation. .
The main multi-sensory room is located at the Eight Mile Plains site and is designed to be stimulating and accessible to people with a wide range of sensory, physical, or intellectual abilities. It features state of the art equipment including:
- bubble column
- invisible keyboard
- vibrating bed
- mirror ball
- spotlight and colour wheel
- effects projector
- fibre optic spray
- activity wall
- ladder light
- light zone area
- CD player and range of recorded music
- aromatherapy vaporiser
This facility is also available for external hire to community organisations/individuals wishing to conduct sensory therapy activities with individuals. Please note that hirers are required to have appropriate insurance including public liability insurance in order to use the room.
