SWELL – this is a great example of collaboration – the initial concept was to produce life size sculptures of Fiona Bells drawing – this was my idea – then Isaac photographed many of Fiona Bells functional ware and then cutting out the people from the work and superimposed them at the beach – Rebecca Linderman and Clarey Lawrence then began making the large scale sculpture with the help of the art therapy client and artist from the Monte Lupo studio. At the same time 8 other employees in the ceramic studio began making 1000’s of tiny tiles, cleaning them up, painting firing glazing put them in the kiln. Then other Monte Lupo employees glue all the mosaic pieces on after this, it is then back to Rebecca for Grouting, then under painted by another artist then finally Fiona Bell paints the details onto the sculpture. This is an entire team working on one outcome.
At Monte Lupo collaboration means individual commitment to a team effort – Creative Collaboration, collaborates to produce the finished product and all that that entails from unloading the clay off of the truck to the selling. It’s a supportive environment for people with disabilities to contribute to a whole, to be a ‘creative cog’ in a machine that wouldn’t operate without them.
