On her 45-minute drive home from work, Multicap Service Leader Bev Visona often finds herself smiling about her day.
“It’s the little things customers say and do, and the achievements they’ve made,” she said. “It makes me smile.”
For almost 16 years, Bev has been supporting people with disability through her work as a Disability Support Worker (DSW) and Service Leader with Multicap.
“I used to work as a general aide at an all-girls school, but I wanted to be making a difference in people’s lives and helping to give people a better life,” she said. “A friend told me about Multicap, and I haven’t looked back.
“I adore what I do— it’s very fulfilling.”
Last year, Bev was appointed Service Leader at Carina Apartments, Multicap’s brand new 20-unit complex.
Bev and her team of DSW’s support residents through a mix of in-home support, short-term accommodation and supported independent living.
While there is a lot of variety in her days and with the customers she supports, Bev’s aim for each and every customer remains steadfast.
“What matters to me is seeing customers take ownership of their lives, making decisions, and considering choices,” she said.
Bev sees her role as ‘enabling’ customers.
“I have an enabling personality,” she said. “I like to enable others to do what they want, when they want to do it. I’ve always been about choice and control and listening to what our customers want and helping them to take the steps to achieve it.
“You take so much pride in what they achieve.”
Families and colleagues say Bev goes above and beyond for her customers.
“I just do what needs to be done,” Bev said. “I’m just one cog in the wheel.”
