Accommodation Services

Updated 30 June 2020

As more staff return to their workplaces, we are proactively implementing a staged rollout of temperature screening across our services and locations for staff, and for customers who visit our non-residential locations. Screening locations include personal protective equipment and instructions, and customers are being offered training to self-screen if they wish.

Supported Independent Living

Our Supported Independent Living (SIL) services remain operational and will continue as they are essential services for people with disability. We have a number of measures in place to protect our residents and workforce. Multicap team members working in SILs have been requested to increase their hand hygiene practices and to not come to work if they are unwell.

Measures in place:

  • Abiding by the standard social distancing measures of 1.5 metres, and 4 square metres per person in each room.
  • Maximising ventilation by opening windows and doors.
  • Greeting people with waves or verbally as opposed to shaking hands.
  • Regularly disinfecting high-touch surfaces such as tables, kitchen benches and door knobs.
  • Limiting food sharing.
  • Increasing outdoor activities.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves and masks as directed and where available.
  • Purchasing goods and services and groceries online, or during designated shopping hours for the elderly and people living with disability, and their support network.
  • Deferring non-essential contractors to site.
  • Permitting visitors as per Government directions and restrictions.

Short Term Accommodation

We have made the decision to temporarily suspend our Short Term Accommodation, at this stage until the end of June 2020. This will support Queenslandand New South Wales health services responses and create some accommodation options for customers and people with disability who may need to relocate or exit hospital following an admission. We have contacted our impacted customers personally and where support is essential, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Our affected staff are being redeployed to other roles within Multicap.

In-Home Support

Our In-Home Support services remain operational and will continue as this is an essential service. Multicap staff working in customers’ homes have been requested to increase their hand hygiene practices and to not attend work if they are unwell.

Our Specialised Behaviour Support Services and Support Coordination teams continue to provide essential services to all relevant customers and residents as required.
