Doors Open at Finucane Road

Multicap’s latest accessible housing project has been completed in the Redlands area. Following years of planning and construction, the launch event on 26 June 2019 unveiled two stunning multi-level houses equipped with innovative accessibility features.

As part of Multicap’s Homes4Life initiative, these two houses will soon become home for up to seven people in our community, where they will be empowered to live independently and achieve their goals. The site on which these houses were built has a special significance, it was formally the site of Share Bayside which provided accommodation and support to people with disability from 1989 until the merger with Multicap in 2015.

The Finucane Road properties are equipped with assistive technology throughout, including automatic front entries and lighting systems, Tunstall Smart Hub medical alarm system and remote-controlled window blinds. Both houses are future-proofed, with wiring and structural supports in place to add hoists, a chair lift on the stairs and additional automated features as technology and customer requirements evolve.

This project was undertaken by Multicap in response to the lack of suitable and accessible accommodation for people living with disability, particularly adult children who are still dependent on their aging parents. It was made a reality with capital funding provided by the Queensland State Government’s Elderly Parent Carer Initiative (EPCII).

The Finucane Road project is already set to provide a brighter future for several individuals and families, including Loren and her mother and full-time carer Coral. After the recent passing of Loren’s father, Coral realised the need for Loren to live independently.

“You have to have something in place for your children after you are gone.” said Coral.

Both Loren and Coral are looking forward to Loren’s move to Finucane Road.

“She will truly grow as a person… this place has a wonderful feel, she will feel happy and safe here.”

Multicap is committed to providing secure and sustainable accommodation options for existing and new customers to call home. Construction is currently underway for Specialist Disability Accommodation in Ormeau, Sunshine Coast and Rockhampton. Learn more about Multicap's current SIL vacancies here
