Laundretto cleans up with grant

A State Government grant is taking the Capalaba Laundretto to the next level. The laundry service was recently awarded a Queensland Government Gambling Community Fund Grant to buy a new commercial washing machine and dryer.

Multicap’s General Manager of Employment Tony Burns said the new equipment would enable Laundretto to better service customer OneHarvest.

“Until recently, the Laundretto had provided retail laundry services to the local community. But thanks to a partnership with OneHarvest, the laundromat is now a full commercial operation, with 11 employees laundering around 300 industry-compliant laundry coats for OneHarvest, six days a week,” Tony said.

“The new commercial equipment will provide a more productive and efficient service, as well as the valuable opportunity for our supported employees to become skilled in a professional commercial laundry. And this will enable us to better service OneHarvest.”

Tony said working at Laundretto gave supported employees the opportunity to learn valuable and transferable skills with the aim of finding work in the open market, using their experience from the Laundretto.

“We are very excited and grateful to have won the grant,” Tony said. “This is what helps dreams come true by enabling us to create sustainable employment opportunities.”

This project is made possible with funding support from the Queensland Government Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
