Multicap team create a cosy cafe at home for Scott

Maintaining routines and ‘normal life’ during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging but important task for Multicap customers and staff, but one that our team members have remained committed to.

For some members of our Mackay team, this meant going the extra mile and being innovative to ensure restrictions didn’t completely disrupt a beloved weekly trip for customer Scott Adams.

A Multicap customer for more than 13 years, Scott lives independently from his family at one of our Supported Independent Living houses, and a highlight of Scott’s week is catching up with his family each Thursday at the local Coffee Club.

While this weekly trip was something he had to forgo during the pandemic due to being in lockdown, the Multicap team were determined to keep the routine alive in some form.

Multicap team members created a ‘Home Coffee Club’ for Scott every Thursday morning on the patio at his home, ensuring his favourite order of a slice of banana bread and mineral water was there waiting for him.

Staff even continued a family tradition of drawing pictures on serviettes during morning tea, as Scott’s brother-in-law does this every week at the family café catch-ups.

It’s just one small but powerful example of how Multicap staff show their dedication to our customers, in going above and beyond to enhance the quality of life of people with disability and their families.

Scott first moved out of the family home into shared supported accommodation 13 years ago, and moved into his new Multicap house earlier this year.

His sister Sharron says while there was initial hesitation, the move has had a massive positive impact for Scott.

“It was going to be a big adjustment, but it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened.

“Scott’s two new housemates are great, and the three of them get along so well.”
