Statement - Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability

Multicap welcomes the announcement of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.

We are committed to maintaining our focus on the potential for positive outcomes that this process represents and welcome the opportunity for individuals to share their experiences.

It is critical to the future of people living with disability that their voices are heard at the highest level, to effect positive change for these members of our community who have been disadvantaged in so many ways in years gone by.

While we know that it may be painful to hear the stories that participants may share, we remain hopeful that the consequence of their bravery in coming forward, will be a significant improvement to the regulation and standards within the sector going forward.
